College Introduction

    College of Science was founded in 2002, enlarged from the pristine Department of Foundation Science of GDOU , and the Communist Party Committee was organized at the same time . The college consists of 3 departments (Mathematics & Information Department, Physics & Optoelectronics Department and Applied Chemistry Department), 2 institutes ( Institute of Applied Chemistry and Institute of Quantum Electronics ), and 2 offices (College Office and Student Affairs Office).

    At present, t here are 3 u ndergraduate specialties in the college including Information & Compute Science, Electronic Science & Technology and Pharmaceutical Engineering. 874 students are reading in the college.

    There are 129 staffs comprising 108 teachers and 21 administrators and technicians. Among 108 teachers, there are 12 professors, 31 associate professors and 33 lectures. There are 67 people with doctor degree or master degree.

    We emphasize the constructing of our staff, we do much to improve the staff and fetch people with ability. College president, Professor Sidong Li, with State Department special allowance, cultivates Ph. D students with University of South Australia and South China University of Technology. There are 8 tutors of the master, such as Prof. Sidong Li, Prof. Wendong Song, Prof. Lei Yang, Prof. Xianwen Li, Prof. Yafei Feng, Prof. Jianxi Du, Prof. Dan Yang, and Prof. Xinming Hao. There are 5 important cultivated people in Guangdong Province Thousand- Hundred-Ten Project, and 1 important cultivated person in our university.

    A learned echelon is coming into being in our college , the structure of degree and professional post is becoming to the development. Many prominent experts from some famous university, such as Huangzhong University of Science and Technology, are invited to teach in our college. The president of South China Normal University , the famous optical scientist, academician in CAS, Prof. Songhao Liu, is invited to be an honorary professor in our college, Prof. Dongliang Zhao and Dr. Jian lan, from Ocean University of Chi na , are invited to be dual-engaged professor. These scientists and professors have a big contribution to the constructing of subject. We bend ourselves to develop subject and to improve teaching quality, and have achieved 2 important university subjects (Applied Chemistry and Pharmic Chemistry).

    We emphasize science research and academic exchange , many professors have been to USA , UK , Malaysia , Thailand , Australia and Hongkong to take part in international academy conferences or to do some academic collaboration. The college often sponsors some academic reports or lectures. We have made some progress in many fields, such as functional analysis, differential equation, dynamical system, figure and image, quantum optics, solid state dosimetry, calculational holography, halobios big molecule, ocean medication, natural production, macromolecule material and applications. In recent years, 36 research projects are under implementation in the college, and 280 articles are published in national and international academic journal, more than 40 articles are embodied in SCI, EI and ISTP. 7 teaching material or translated books are edited and 27 patents are applied by the teachers in the college. In recent years, the research projects and published papers are increasing, and the academic ability of the teachers is ascending.

    The college emphasizes the constructing of practice base and laboratory, and has built up many practice bases and laboratories, such as Information and Computation Laboratory, Physics Experiment Teaching Center , Chemistry Experiment Teaching Center , Photoelectricity Technique Laboratory and Pharmacy Engineering Laboratory. The area of laboratories is more than 5000 m 2 and is planed to reach 15000 m 2 to satisfy the demand of teaching and research.
